2 Basic Steps to Improving Your Golf Swing

Golf is truly an individual sport. The basics are the same for everyone; However, due to differences in people's body types, no two people will have the same golf swing. Each person will have to adapt their body to perform a good golf swing in their own way. Taking the time to develop your own unique way of playing golf will greatly enhance your enjoyment and success in the game. Practicing the basic principles of the game until they are rooted in your muscles will lead to confidence on the course, and this confidence will lead to success and enjoyment of the game.

One of the most basic steps you can take and see an immediate improvement in your golf swing is to keep your head still and look directly at the ball. Your head position should be in line with your spine, and your nose should be slightly up so that your left shoulder is under your chin when you begin to swing. Many players put their head in their chest to try to keep their head still and stare directly at the golf ball. Unfortunately, they cannot make a good golf swing in this position.

If you're one of those people who struggles to keep your head straight and your eyes on the ball, try the following. The next time you approach the ball, adopt the correct stance with your feet and knees in place, but keep your head and back straight, lean forward slightly at the waist and look directly at the ball . If you try to swing in this position, your left shoulder will most likely touch your chin. Keeping your eyes on the ball, slowly raise your head so your left shoulder isn't touching your chin. Make sure your head doesn't move from side to side while keeping your eyes fixed on the ball. Slowly go through the back swing and downswing portions of your golf swing. Do not hit and follow the ball. Practice this part of the golf swing focusing on keeping your head straight and your eyes on the ball.

Do this exercise in the garden about 25 times in a row, then take a break, relax for a while, then start again. Make minor corrections to your head and body position if necessary to keep your eyes straight on the ball and your left shoulder not hitting your chin. This exercise will "train" your body and your muscles will "remember" the correct position they need to be in to perform the movement correctly. Think of any athletic athlete, they train and train to get their body in the correct stance and position to correctly execute the movements needed to be successful in their particular sport. You do the same thing by "training" your body to hold your head up and position yourself so that you can successfully execute the appropriate running drill.

Another key step that can go a long way in improving your golf swing is relaxation. I know that's easier said than done, especially when you're willing to put your all into driving with an audience of co-workers, or better yet, friends who won't let you forget if you you are wrong. However, relaxing your muscles will help you maintain proper balance, which is important for a good golf swing. No matter what golf clubs you use, your balance is the foundation of your golf swing, and the way to achieve good balance is to practice. A good way to practice improving your balance is to assume the title position

With your club, relax your body and try to hold it for about 30 seconds. Do you feel like you have more weight in one foot or the other? Is one part of your body more tense than another?

Keeping your head straight and maintaining good balance are just two essential parts of a good golf swing. The exercises above are just two ways to start practicing now to improve your golf swing. You can work on any of them separately or combine them into one workout. Improving your golf game begins and ends with you. Training the muscles in your body to perform specific movements correctly takes time and practice. Efforts to improve your golf swing will pay off on the course. With practice and practice, you'll be able to slide into the proper heading position and pull off a powerful golf swing effortlessly and feel like you're slipping your hand into a soft, warm glove.
